The PNB is proud to announce the addition of the 2wd stock spec SCT class. Oh man, the thought of you electric boys haulin around a psycho track gives me the goose umps. OK, for all you SCT (CORR) guys there will be a seperate track within the psycho track that will be designed just for SCT trucks. Whats that?, your own purpose built SCT track? You heard corectly, nice smooth sections and jumps build for you to hammer through smoothly and fluidly without the harsh beatings your truck takes on an average 1/8scale track.

New to the 2010 Psycho Nitro Blast is the 1/8 Electric open buggy class. You guys will be sure to test out the speed on our 200+ foot straight and then going through the straight jacket.
At the PNB we do things MUCH DIFFERENT than the other races. Most events run tripple A mains but not us. To make things a little more challenging it's a 20 min A main with a mandatory pit stop and battery change. So make sure you have a good pit guy and let the fun begin. MAXIMUM AWESOMENESS!!!!!!!

This year at the Psycho Nitro Blast Ryan Lutz will join Adam Drake in an attempt to shatter last years world record. Adam Drake jumped 143'-7 1/2" at a top speed of 77 mph. This year the PNB crew will be building a newly designed launch ramp that should put them in the 200'+ range. Both Losi and Tamiya will be bringing highly modified versions of their 2.0 and 801X buggy with rumors of some crazy design ideas and never before seen top speeds from an 1/8 nitro buggy. Maximum Awesomeness PNB style!!!!!!!

Hey guys, it is starting to get close to the event and I am getting
pretty pumped to see all of the old faces and hopefully a bunch of new
faces. It's going to be a great time for all of us.
I suppose that the biggest change this year is the change to the format
and extension of the practice time. In previous years practice was 24
hours starting on Friday morning to Saturday morning, then 3 rounds of
qualifying starting on Saturday morning ending some time Sunday morning
in the early hours. Mains started on Sunday morning shortly after
qualifying was over and it all ended on Sunday evening.
This year practice will open on Thursday morning and go through the
night until Friday late afternoon. We will have the first qualifier
start around 5 pm on Friday night. We expect to be done with that
round some time after midnight. We will begin qualifying again
Saturday morning after a break for some sleep (unless you are really
hard core and want to stay up and practice because the track will be
open) so that the racers will not transform to zombies because of lack
of sleep as has been the pattern over the last couple of years.
Because we are running two quals on Saturday rather than all three,
there will also be time for sleep Saturday evening. Dave and I feel
that this format change will allow racers to be more relaxed and enjoy
themselves more.
We know that some people will not be able to take Thurday off of school
or work. These racers will still have plenty of time on Friday to
practice and gain a feel for the track. We will let practice continue
all of the way until late afternoon on Friday, and another practice
session will take place immediately after the completion of the first
qualifier.
Please remember that we are running qual points for your best two
qualifiers. If you do not know what this means, please ask a fellow
racer to explain.
Please feel free to ask me any questions about anything.

Okay, so here is just a little bit for you to chew on: I will only post this on this forum, then I will say no more about it. Here goes.....
After a recent conversation with Ryan Lutz regarding the world record jump attempt, he made repeated contact with Dave Leikam peppering him with questions regarding what would be accepted as a "legal" modification to the car. Inquiries regarding the number of legal engines (!) were made as well as an inquiry into the legality of using multiple speeds (as in 8th onroad cars!) to get the car to max speed. Holy shizz! What I am trying to say here is his machine may be a serious Hauling Frankenstein.
We let him know that anything goes as long as it has a buggy body and uses buggy tires and wheels. Basically, it needs to look like a buggy from the outside.
Out of fairness, we let Adam Drake know the same rules and we expect something awe-inpspiring from him just like last year.
As you may know, last year's record was set by Adam with a Losi slightly modified with a longer chassis and a 22 tooth (!) clutch bell. The car clocked in at 77mph. The engine sounded other-worldly. To set a new record will require a car to haul mother-lovin' butt.
Alan Burton will be making the attempt also with his Speed Shop designed machine. Who knows what he has up his sleeve.
There may also be another machine making the attempt, but I will let you know about that later.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Hey Psychos - Dave and I were recently talking about the PNB and it brought up a couple of thoughts that we both figured we should tell all of you.
In all of the nitro classes, there is a mandatory pit stop in each of the ten minute qualifiers. The reason for this is to include the pit man in the qualifier as well as the main. The pit man will have a significant impact upon your qualifier. That being said, the minimum requirement of the pit stop is that the car's chassis must be laid upon the pit rail and ultimately returned to pit road.
The reason that I bring this up is that only one driver took advantage of the minimum requirement. He started from the starting area, drove across the timing loop, went into pit road, the pit man picked up the car, touched the car to the pit rail, then returned his car to pit road without additional fuel. He made all of the heats without taking fuel on the pit stop. Who was this driver? Adam Drake.
Can you go ten minutes plus in order to avoid pit stops? Most cannot, some can. Is it worth the risk? You decide.
The following information is mostly for veterans of the PNB experience: With the addition of time between rounds and time between the heats and the mains, there will be (more) time to sleep. Running more than one class in the past was a task taken on by only the iron men of the hobby, or perhaps the mentally disturbed. It should be much easier this year.
Looking forward to seeing all of you soon....

For those racers who plan to send in registration and payment via US Postal service or some other snail mail, please do so as soon as possible. Keeping in mind that there are currently over 400 registrations (about 365 on RCSignup and about 40 via mail-in) and that the first 400 PAID entries get into the event, you would not want to miss your spot because your entry was in the mail when the limit was reached. This may not happen, but better safe than sorry.
FYI for racers new to racing in larger events: It is typical that there is a big rush in registrations and payment on the last few days before the event. Just be aware and do not get caught out.

FYI - There is an interesting glitch in RCSignup that deletes your entire registration for any car that has been changed in your vehicles. For example, if you were to change you car in your profile from a Losi to a Mugen, your entry for that car would be completely deleted. Please go back and confirm all of you entries if you have added or changed anything in you profile.
This has already happened to at least a few racers registered for the PNB.
Please double check.

In previous years we have used a GMRS radio system to broadcast the racing action at the PNB. For 2010 we have purchased an FM broadcasting system that has stereo capabilities so we can not only broadcast important race announcements but also send some tunes to your trailer or pit area with crystal clear reception. No need to leave the comforts of your rv or trailer to check what heat we are on, you can catch it all on the Infirmary radio station. All ya need is an FM radio and then sit back, wrench a little, shoot the bull with the buds and enjoy the broadcast.

Ollie and I have been discussing the way a post race recap should be done. Many times you just read about the qualifying order and then what happens in the mains with a few pics and BAM, your done. We feel you miss a huge percentage of what really makes an event "the event".
This years Psycho Nitro Blast will have it's own post race media release that will be available to anyone to read and watch free of charge. It will come from ollie and I and will be written from our perspective starting from the many months leading up to the race to the actual race itself. I'm not talking about a paragraph or two of stuff, I'm talking about a full blown run down of the Psycho Nitro Experience equiped with lots of videos, pictures and graphics.
But we are not happy with that. We want to hear from you guy's....The racers. We want you to submit to us your experience at the PNB. We want to hear about your practice sessions, the vibe you felt, funny stories that happened to you or your friends, the back flip you pulled off, how many Monsters you drank, how many friends you made, your qualifying experience, what happened in your main and what a good time you had. We also want you to include any pictures that you may have taken over the course of the event that helps describe your experience at the Psycho Nitro Blast.
Our panel of judges will review all the articles written and submitted and choose five that will make it into our post race media release. The five winners will receive a special PNB merchandise care package.
We will develop a section on our web site that will host the post race media release. We will then post the link on all the forums and e-mail all the participants with the link so you can experience the sensory overload that is sure to follow. It is also an easy way for you to send it to friends and family and share with them the ultimate in RC racing.
The due date for the articles will be Sunday March 14th. Please e-mail all entries to daveleikam@psychonitroblast.com.
Looking forward to it and can't wait to read your articles. We know this will be full of maximum awesomeness!
Later,
Dave

This just in from the Speed Shop camp:
The speed shop world record long jump entry is in the build/test stages. Today Friday the 12th yeilded only decent results with a 79mph run with test buggy #1, and a 86mph run with test setup #2. With the surface cold and slick with the snow today it was hard to manage the Speed Shop entry at these speeds! We are using the popular class leading Losi 8 2.0 B with two very different setups. We are going to be looking super fast with a www.fastlanegear.com wrap using a new "radio active" wrap! The Speed Shop will head out to Losi head quarters on monday to pick up the proto gears hopefully needed to achieve the speed needed to come out on top. After the Nitro pit event in Arizona we will return for a few days and get some testing and final prep work done on the SPEED SHOP entry before heading to the PNB. See you guys there! It's going to be insane!
We have also viewed a short video of Adam Drake at the losi office doing a speed run and suddenly getting a boost of power and a heavy smoke trail. All attempts to find out about it were refused by Losi execs....

Dave and I were having a drink and we both started laughing when we
remembered this story from the first year.
Dave, I and a handfull of loyal volunteers had been working for days
prior to the first PNB on the track and the venue and were thoroughly
exhausted. The track was complete. Practice was to start promptly at
7 am on Friday morning and it was about 8 pm or so on Thursday night.
Although completely inadequate to running a race, we used a single row
of metal halide lights to provide enough light over the arena in order
to build the track and complete all of the details. We left that row
of lights on as we knew that we would return and do some minor touch
up work after taking a well deserved break at a local restaurant.
Earlier that day a relatively small number of early arriving racers
came into the arena to get a glimse of the track and try to imagine
how fun it would be. There were smiles all around. As the day
progressed, more and more people came in as you would expect. When we
left to get a bite to eat, we chained all of the doors and departed
feeling comfortable that all of our gear was safe and secure in the
locked arena.
When we returned from our break at about 10 pm or so, we unlocked the
arena and walked in only to be surprised by around 15 or so racers up
on the drivers stand. They broke in! Holy crap. At first I was
pissed, but after a couple of seconds I realised that had the shoe
been on the other foot, I probably would have been one of the first
ones to find a way in.

Ollie and I have attended some races last year and were checking out some of the handicapped drivers stand setups. We noticed that most of them were to low and at a bad angle of the track where it was difficult for the guy's to really see the track. Another problem is the height of the stand really needs to be about 5 feet higher to get the same height as a standing person.
Well, the scissor lift was delivered today. The handicapped guys will have the best seat in the house.....That's a promise!

It's Scott's first year and he hammered out a ton of work today including giving our wooden babies some TLC. These guy's know what it takes to get it done and and done right....Just part of what makes the Psycho the Psycho.

Hey everyone. Just back from track build. Tired.
Wanted everyone in the SCT class to know that they will run the entire course, except for The Wall. There are sections that are challenging without doubt, but everything is doable. Ran a Slash full wood through the whoops and it was so fun it made me laugh out loud. Come join the fun (but don't procrastinate as Sunday is the last day for online registration.)

The following info was posted by Gene Snipes (SCT God) on another forum:
There have been some questions that have come up about what can be run
in the Stock SCT class and what cannot. Specifically, tires and
differentials have been mentioned, as well as ESC/Motor combos. I want
to try to address some of these issues now, so we have less uncertainty
when you arrive at the track.
The intent of the class is to keep the cars as close to a Ready-To-Run
stock truck as possible, with the driver being the controlling factor in
the performance, rather than one person running superior equipment over
another. However, there will obviously be variations in the equipment,
since multiple manufacturers are involved. In any case, the following
things need to be clarified:
- The ESC and motor used MUST be from a Ready-To-Run Short Course Truck.
It can be from a manufacturer that is different from your chassis
manufacturer, as long as it comes on an RTR truck. Aftermarket ESCs and
motors are not allowed.
There have been questions about differentials with different tooth pitch
that are not available on any Ready-To-Run vehicle. We intended to
allow only differentials from RTR cars in the class, but due to the fact
that I did not write this section of the rules explicitly enough, I have
unintentionally left room for aftermarket differentials to be considered
legal. Since this was just pointed out to me today, it seems unfair to
say that these cannot be used at the last minute, after allowing people
to think that these would be allowed. I'm certain that some people have
purchased these differentials (at considerable expense) to run at this
event, so they will be allowed.
The rule for tires is pretty straightforward, but I need to emphasize
that 1/8th scale tires are NOT allowed. The tires that are allowed are
the 2.2 x 3.0 SCT-specific tires. Every SCT manufacturer offers their
own tires, as well as companies like Pro-Line and JConcepts. The tires
must be completely stock (no cutting or modification) and tires that
have been created from gluing 2 or more tires together to create a new
tire will not be allowed.
Any time there is a completely new class, there will be many questions
and items that have to be worked out. Please ask any questions you have
about the rules or what might be questionable, so it can be addressed
now, rather than waiting and not knowing.
Thanks.

Not sure what centerline is, but the outside dimensions are 240 feet by 140 feet. We estimate the track centerline to be about a quarter of a mile. Quarter mile was first year's length and we did not measure last year.

Dave and I know that many of you, like ourselves, do not know for sure whether you can go to an event until the last second. I, for one, almost never register until the last day, or I wait until I am at the track. For this reason, and the fact that manual registration at the track is such a pain and manual registration opens the door for errors, we are extending online registration until 11:45 pm on Tuesday.
Common sense prevails on this one. I simply don't want to be typing in a bazillion names come Thursday.

After spending the last two days helping the PNB crew with the track build, I can say without any doubt at all, that this will MOST DEFINATELY be the most technical and the most "car friendly" track to date. Which, IMO, will equal the most enjoyable and most likely the largest track yet.
Dave and Ollie have once again gone above and beyond to give all of us that WOW FACTOR we all have come to expect from them year after year, and they have gone bigger and better for PNB III.(MAXIMUM AWESOMENESS will be delivered for sure)
So, get your game faces on boys, it gonna be a blast, cause "THE WRECKONING" is apon us!!! We must all atone for our past PNB sins, (Not enough monster drink to last the weekend, not checking the car one last time for lose screws or wheel nuts, not repeaking the batteries before an hour long main, forgetting how to calculate fuel mileage on the fly or just plain forgetting how to do simple math all together, and most of the other dumb **** we do when things get hectic) Psycho will find your weaknesses and will crush you, if you let it.
True "PSYCHOHALICS" allow no quarter and surrender to no one!!! And if you aint fast enough, you're gonna be left laying in the dust!!!
Wow, can you really believe its that time again?
See you guys in 3 days!!!

The first year got blown out and loose, last year it actually grooved in some spots, and this year it should groove even more. Dave and Ollie scraped the entire track down to the clay and then calciumed it so it should be killer.
Of course you can't go wrong with AKA!!!! (lol) AKA is sending a couple of sets of the SS endura, so I am hoping that will be the ticket since no one else will have them besides Lutz. But you can't go wrong with a bow tie, caliber, I beam, city block, definately in the SS compound.

I wanted to let everyone know that Brandon Melton and Chris Pace of Team Associated donated their A-main truggies for auction with the proceeds going toward the Leighton Dillard fund to help out his family in their time of need. Leighton Dillard died on the drivers stand while qualifying in Pro Truggy this last Friday night at the PNB.
After some discussion, Dave and I decided to auction the truggies off using the forums to reach out to the RC community rather than try to do it at the track, since it would be close to impossible to communicate the auction to all of the drivers in attendance at once. We will clean the trucks up and take pictures of them before the auction. We will do this quickly as we imagine the financial needs of the family will be immediate and formidable.
A huge heartfelt thanks goes out to Brandon Melton, Chris Pace and Team Associated. I will certainly let the family know of your actions. Team Associated should definitely be proud to have representatives like you on board.
Very Respectfully,
