I am looking at moving to a new buggy. I am currently running a Kyosho 7.5. The 801x is one of the buggies I was looking at. My qustion is how much of a change would it be moving to this buggy. I am looking to make 2010 a good year.
Big - Not really sure waht you mean by change. Just buy the kit and a few spares and hit the track. If you decide on the 801x contact me and I will share a few tips to kit you started. Check out www.tamiyausa.com for more info.
Check this video with David Jun.....He tells you a little more about the features on the 801x

Ok, So I bought my TRF801X used, cause I got a really good deal on it, and it came with a big load of brand new spares. First time out at the track I noticed the brakes were sticking a little after just tapping the brakes, found that the brake linkage was really stiff to pivot back and forth, causeing the hang up. I didnt have alot of time so I adjusted the servo control rod a bit to make it return to neutral. I didnt think about it before the next big race.
Today I was putting it all back together after a big full teardown, clean, rebuild. I noticed the stiffness and called Alex for tips, he told me to loosen the top plate screws to free it up some, I did that and it did free it up some, but not enough to make me happy. I tore it all down to findout what was causing this.
When the diff mount halves are tightend up on each other, the brake actuation shaft is getting wedged between the top half and the plate. I had several ideas to fix this, and decided on one. First tear it down and take the actuation shaft out, remove the bushing insert from the top plate. Clean the bushing and top plate, and re-install the bushing from the top side of the plate, opposite from how you take it out. I took a little CA glue and put some under the flange of the bushing to help hold it down in place.
Next I installed the shaft and noticed a good bit of up and down play when it is put back together. I had a pack of Losi Shims, Part #LOSA6230 , that had 6 very small shims in it that happened to be the perfect inner and outer diameter for the shaft. I am not sure of the thickness, but it is very very thin, like a clutch shim, which would possibly work as well. I took 3 of these shims and installed them on the top of the shaft so they would be between the shaft flange and the top plate, see pic. Reinstalled everything tight and it was better, but still just a bit too snug for me, so I removed 1 shim and put it backtogether and wow is it free, works smooth now with a tiny amount of up and down play, wont hurt anything. So I did the other shaft, ending with both having 2 shims each and the difference is amazing in how free it is and all the screws are good and tight.

Shag - be sure to put a drop of glue on the cam bushing that fit into the carbon fiber top brace. The carbon fiber will really wear those bushings out fast if they are allowed to rotate in the carbon fiber. Just a tip!

also got tired of waiting for replacement upper shock mounts, and tired of bending stock screws, converted mine to losi upper mounts, had to drill the holes in the tower out, add a spacer on mount, and found a good way to re-use old front steering knuckle collars..... cut off an edge of the flange and the fit the shock caps perfectly, and then fit the losi mounts perfectly as well. Had zip ties on them in the pics cause i didnt have the right size nuts for them, but had a buddy bringing some to the track. They worked great all weekend with no bending or problems.
Finally got a good weekend of pretty good track conditions (no mud finally). The Proving Grounds 2 in Sumter, SC held their New Year Dash for Cash race. 22 Pro buggy drivers. First qualifier went out on VP Pro ultra flexx turbo trax (had too much sidebite in practice, track was very tacky, had traction rolling problems, wanted to give up a bit of traction), didnt have quite enough forward bite, was hurting me in sections, ended up about 17th after first round. 2nd round I went to VP Pro ultra flexx cutoff fronts and ultra flexx axman rears, and it was hooked up nice, got tied up twice and it hurt me, I qualified 2nd in the B main, 12th overall, missing the A-main by less than 2 seconds. The weather started looking iffy, so they cut mains back, B-main was 10 minutes and I was still breaking in my new motor, so was running it rich, thought it would just barely go 10 minutes, but wasnt sure. I knew a couple others were going to try for 10 minutes, not knowing if they could make it. I jumped out to a lead off the start and held it strong for the first 2 minutes+, then came Barry Pettit to challenge, we battled for the next few minutes, another coming into the mix and then falling back. I was right on Barry when I heard the call for him to pit. We had pulled away a bit so I decided to run into the pits with him, both of us out quick but I saw 3rd place shoot by us to take the lead. I ran 3rd for a bit, barry moved to 1st. I got close to 2nd and then got tangled up. I battled for 3rd till the end, hanging on to finish in 3rd and just missing the bump to the A-Main. Only my 4th event with the TRF801X and loving it more each time out. Hope it holds up well for Psycho Nitro Blast.

I recently got a wrap for my Tamiya TRF801X from Kevin at T-Wraps (twraps@gmail.com). It was my first wrap, went on pretty much flawlessly using a heat gun to help form it a little. It took maybe 15-20 minutes to do. The quality is top notch, deffinetly recommended:

this was a design he already had, since i contacted him the friday before nitro blast, and only had a few days to get it to me. He will be doing a full custom wrap design for me soon.
