Big News!!!!
We would like to welcome Lance Jones and Don Owens as new operators of the Proving Grounds 2. They bring with them new enthusiasm, new classes, and new layouts to our facilities.
We will still run all the old favorite classes, 1/10 Truck, 1/8 Buggy, 1/8 Truggy but will be adding oval classes such as Eastcoast Dirt Modified (EDM), Latemodel, Sprint, Oval Truck, Slash classes and many others.
This decision was made by the club for the betterment of the track to bring more enthusiasm and excitement that has been lost in years past to our local area. We wanted also to bring new oval classes to this area such as 1/8 buggy conversions to latemodels and EDM's to offer a variety of rc racing. These are only a few of the classes that have been all the rage in rc racing in the last year.
Easy access from I-95, we are centrally located to offer even more and exciting rc racing to the public here in the midlands of South Carolina.
Come out and see the new and exciting changes in the coming weeks to our facilities and meet Lance and Don and help welcome and support them to the Proving Grounds 2 for some extra-ordinary rc racing.

things will turn out great...this is a step in the right direction. We needed a fresh start and to step out of the box......Ladies and gentlemen it is just dirt bunched up in piles for us big kids to play on and thats what we all are going to do and we will all have a blast doing so. Don't single people out and post attacks on them as though they are solely responsible.
When the dust settles (play on words....get it!) we will have another outstanding facility as though we always have. Get pumped up b/c there is more fun to be had!!!!! I promise!!!
You don't need to post responses to this b/c thats not what it is intended for but if you feel a need to do so call me and we can have a discussion.803-464-1005

I have deleted my posts from yesterday, sorry if it offended anyone.
I do hope off-road racing continue's in sumter, even if its a smaller track.
I wish lance and don the very best of luck,i'm sure they will make great operators and maybe new leadership.
I would like to ask all the off-roaders to please give them a fair chance at improving the racing at sumter, and give them the support it takes to make our sport grow. This will be my last post on this subject.
Thanks

The track is coming along good, 12ft lanes through the infield and 20 ft on the oval part, should give everyone a little bit of everything. We hope to have it finished up this week and will be posting pics soon. 1/5 scale Baja 5b gets through the infield section with ease, so it should be plenty biggun enough for all classes.

Hey everybody, i just got done running my buggy out at the track and it was great :). The track felt very smooth and the layout is great too. You can't go to fast in the inside track or you end up in the wood beams. Once you get out of it and into the oval part man can you open it up . I timed my self and I did three minutes without crashing and i was pulling between 27-30 sec lap times. But i was also told that they are going to be adding some more jumps so that time with be a little bit more. Over all I really enjoyed the track you just got to get use to it, because at first it felt tight. But after a little bit of driving I didn't notice it anymore.

looks pretty good, but i recommend changing the walls in the off road inner section atleast, the wood looks good, and holds up well, but it doesnt give any and breaks alot of parts

Thanks for the input, but the boards are there as a lane guide, they are not for racing on.The idea is to lift before you hit them , correct your car and increase your lap time by not breaking and or being marshalled. We hope everyone enjoys the track, that is what it is there for. We have a few more things to do and it will be ready ,Thanks again for your input.

i am not saying they should be used to help make a turn, but when racing close on dirt, stuff happens. You get a bad bump or rear end hops and you can smack a board, or if another car bumps you and sends you into the boards. Wood walls for RC is like normal concrete walls for nascar. Nascar realized that stuff happens and in contact areas they put hybrid walls, water walls, etc to help absorb contact so less damage is done. Same goes for RC. Wood used to be used everywhere I race back in the 90s, but then plastic tubing was used to absorb some impact. Even PVC is used more now, it is a slick surface that doesnt grab hold of todays rubber tires and suck them in, and it is rolled to allow a buggy to get up on it if needed to limit damage. Like I said, just a suggestion, if you end up with alot of guys breaking parts on the wood, you may lose racers

I was able to make some laps on the new track before the rain, yesterday.Track was fun, offroad part was kind of tight, but not bad, oval part is very fast, buggy's may need to make small gear change, mine was turning lots of rpm's at end of back straight. Also i must say that lance and don and whoever has done lots of hard, nice work.Races should be fun and exciting.

We intend to put a few more items in the layout that will take away some of the speed on the backstretch, it is real close, we hope to finish this weekend. We would like to get through with the working part and do some racing, the touring cars @ Monks Corner sure look like fun.

Tks don,i'm feeling much better now and ready to race, track is good,i didn't have no trouble with the boards, and if people will drive with a little common sense, the offroad will be fine,a little give and take will make for some fun racing------NICE JOB !!!!!

Rick, Thanks for the kind words, we really appreciate it. I'm glad you had fun on the track, that's exactly what we're shooting for. We wanted to have a track that's fun for everyone. Not just a few. Your right about the boards, again that was our intent. If you drive like you have some sense then it will be fun, and to us better racing. Something I have noticed where there's pipe, it seems every heat has someone that gets of the track then gasses up, jumps the pipe and ends someone else's day for there lack of respect for the other racers. You'll respect the wall more if you know you cant jump it. Thats one of our reasons for using it. Plus it looks 100% better. It cost more and is more trouble to mainain but we want a nice place for people to have FUN and it will be worth it. We'll have a good time.
Also, Yes the oval 1/8 scales are alot of fun.

I hope everyone will come out to support this "new" track. The rocks give the track a real professional look. The french drains will help drain water off the track. (i have been goin out there takin sneak peeks):D Great idea!

1/5 Scale Baja's running on a oval! What a sight to see! Slipping and sliding. Gripping and ripping. Smashing and crashing(my favorite part). And some were useing others as ramps!
But! It was a fun day for all who raced and those who came to watch.
I saw grown men drooling at the thought of them getting one to play with. You know who you are.
It looks like the race format will be as follows: 2 20 lap heats and a 50 lap main.
These bad boys are ripping laps off at anywhere from 10+sec laps to as fast as low 9's. Even saw a few high 8's in pratice. But for the most part laps were turned any where from 9.3 to 10.5 in the races. The fastest laps were turned at the end of the main event.
Lance and Don did a great job of preparing the track and keeping it well watered during the day. Dust was NEVER a issue. (just had to dodge dirt clods)
OFFROAD RACING NEXT SATURDAY MAY 8th.

Rick, It's 4 feet long I dont think it will fit any of your cars. :D LOL!!!!!!!! This is the new body we're building. It will fit a baja or a 1/4 scale. We had it at the track the weekend. It's huge. As far as the 1/8 scale oval. Get some people to come out. We want to run them, just nobodys showed up with them. Hell I have a friend that wants to run gas truck on the oval. If we have enough for a class bring'em on.
We had a blast this weekend. If we could just get people to see these things run or drive one they'll be hooked. It was a trip to have six of these things ripping around the track. Can't wait til we have a full field of them.
Thanks for everyone that came out this weekend. We appreciate it. See you at the track.

Wow did you guys see that video? That thing was smoking fast. It had the wrong tires on and was turning the track in under 9.5sec. With the right tires we think it could knock a sec or more off those lap times.
We missed all you off-road racers Sat. We had a great test and tune session when we did not have enough racers to run races with.
Dell Mathis was laying down some great laps (25.25 sec) DJ turned some good laps also. DJ was trying out his "new" buggy. Patrick Allen came and was fast also.
We would like to thank Luke ( I forgot your last name) for coming. He brought his truggy and was right there with everyone else in times.
Thanks Skey for the burgers! They were great.

Track still has water on it and would have been a mudhole if we had it off yesterday. Reschedule for next week, offroad heats @ 10:00, Oval in the afternoon @4:00, see you there. We are working on a few more solutions for drainage, but 6 days of rain like this is overwhelming.Thanks.

Are you all goin out there this afternoon to work on the track?

We are going to need help cleaning up the rocks those little ****heads threw all over the track!
Scoocer mom's are a bunch of lazy .............! They let their kids go over to our track and destroy it while they sit on their fat asses. I think I'll take my children out there and tell them to go dig holes in the scoocer field. Now that I have vented I feel so much better!
See everyone Saturday around 9am. Going to be a long day but a fun day!

Had a blast yesterday on the oval, even with the problems that arise when your'e racing these ,once you get back in there, you forget all about it, if you weren't there you missed a great time . It's nothing like racing nitro. Plans are in the works for an offroad track, after running @ Digger's, I can't wait to get in done. We have a great group of guys and everyone had fun, see you next time.

I'm sure we could make 100 laps easily on a tank of fuel, I don't know how many after that, we will have to see. Refueling would have to be a mandatory stop for everyone on the same lap, to avoid having to have pit people. Like the night racing , that would be cooooooooool in more ways than one.

Mr. Osteen you have got to be kiddin me? 800 dollars? you do realize once anything leaves a store, the value drops rediculously right?
anything used or even already bought out of a store you'll be lucky to get half back. you might get it if its the 1/5th scale super sport model.
you can buy a brand new 1/5th scale RC with a 30cc engine RTR racing edition for less than 800. 680 to be exact.
or
you can get 1/8th scales with .28 for under 400 all day long or the .21 engines for under 200.
Get Real... (no harm intended; my personal opinion) ~Aj
also.... if the dirtbusters will fit my buggy, I might want the tires and wheels

I'm far from even interested in that baja so you're not hurting my feelings and I'm sure no one elses either. The price seems pretty steep from what I have seen on it online. All I'm saying is you probably wont get 800 for it. You can get the brand new kit online for less. New beats used in my book.
I also said I might've been interested in your dirtbusters but thats cool too, your loss, not mine.
Dont try to make ppl feel bad because ONE person does not agree with your price, thats a female trait... Someone else on this forum might have been interested, just not me. Seems to me, someone has more growing up to do if thats how you instantly react.
I do apologize if it did offend you but at the same time if it did offend you, thats sad.
AJewell85
06-22-2010, 04:38 PM
also..... if that right there is how the ppl that are hanging out together and racing together act. I want no part in your "club" I'll begin my own.... I wish PG2 the best but I want no part with you all if thats your attitudes. That was extremely childish and immature. I really do hope the other fellows I have talked to are not the same.
This is not directed to anybody on this forum so take it however you like.
if you do take offense.... cry me a river, build a bridge and get over it.

AJewel85, if you had been in this sport for a long time u might know something of what you talk about. But that Baja is a HPI not some cheap knock off. And you would know that a 1/5 scale wheel and tire will not fit a 1/8 scale buggy. :lol-floor:
Some people will find your remarks funny. (A HPI Baja for little over $600) Again I have to fall to the floor laughing.
I know that a HPI Baja with a new motor in the box, 1 1/2 set of extra tires is worth every penny of $800. (a new HPI Baja is about $1100)
Next time before you open your mouth and insert your foot, do your homework! None of this was said to hurt your feelings. :lol-floor:
See you Saturday racing starts at 10:00

lmao you got me there. no problem admitting either, let them get there 7 chuckles... I know I did... I found a kit for that baja 5bss for 650. thats why i said that. Yes I do not know much about these things and I will not research these things so I know every detail to them, theres more to my life than an RC car lol.
I can get you back on this though... RC racing is not a sport, it is a hobby... Sports are televised and have bracket standings whereas RC racing is just for fun... you can hold your own tournament with your own prizes or whatever but RC Racing is FAR from Official... so.... HA HA

$800 FIRM NO DISCUSSION NESSECARY call me at 803-316-0662
AJewel85 I was and am not mad at anyone you obviously do not know me. If you would like to meet me I run Vacuums & More at 876 west liberty st. I love the Lord and have no Ill will toward ANYONE everyone is entitled to thier opinion but I do not think this is overpriced.
I have learned never let anyone price what you have for sale. and you can ask ANYONE that knows me I NEVER tell ANYONE what the value of what they have is. If I want it I pay thier price If I think it is too high I just don't buy it.

They have World Championship Races in all classes. And like most "sports", some people make a damn good living racing these things. They travel all over the world to races. Japan, New Zealand Tiawan Germany Indonesia Sweden Italy To you and me it is a hobby but to others it is a "Sport". So excuse me if I get confused.
I have met some of the people who make a living racing RC cars, buggies, trucks airplanes and the such. And they call it a "sport", so who am I to argue with them. I, like you, do this as a hobby (and I ain't that good at it). In fact I suck at it! That's why I call the races. lol But I do love to try! Running in circles that is.
This is good! Interesting conversation. Sharing Views.

i just didnt understand why u took it off so fast because of my opinion. Knowing I am the newbie lol. Honestly, I probably wont be able to drive my car either when I get it. I just wanted one for fun.
I couldnt find nothing on any races like that other than public held championships where the ppl did everything themselves but ended up with some sponsors. So me personally I wouldnt call it a sport. It doesnt have the recognition to be a sport here. To me.
To those that live off of it, and are a part of the RC racing sport industry.... Id have to tip my hat to them. That would definately be a life to live. Id love to trade shoes for a year or so haha. Although, if they live off of it, life is definately not easy and fun all the time. Probably quite stressful, but the thrill of the traveling everywhere and racing anybody and anything..... thats what I'm talking about.... major props
with all that said, ya got me again.... soon enough I'll know a piece of something to defend myself.... some how, some way lol

AJewel, what you bought was a buggy to learn with. That way if you find out you don't like RC racing you have not pissed away too much money. Not everyone can afford to put $1200 into the first buggy they buy.
Just come out and enjoy yourself. Every one out there will be more than happy to help any way they can!

Be nice guys!
AJ in this hobby you get what you pay for.
There are Many Cheap cars out there but beware there are some you cannot buy parts for
I did a search for this
Madfire buggy just to see what it looked like and it looks like a nice buggy But the online retailer that was selling it did not have any parts for it. If I were you I would check and be sure you can get parts for it before you open the package because you WILL break something and if you cant get parts to repair it it will be a big waste of YOUR money.
Good luck
