Travis and I went to VRP last night and tested out The GCS's timing software. RC Scoring Pro worked Flawlessly!
Thanks to Vince Ponder for allowing us to use his facility and jumping onto his races. The guys from SCORE in Savannah have been great at helping us get this software setup.

Dates:
Feb 6th - GCS Warm up Race/ Resurection Race
Feb 20th - GCS Round 1

BTW - The New VRP track layout looks sweet!

Awesome, thats always good news...it should only get better from there!

What software were you running before?

We relied on the tracks to provide the timing software. We used several different brands last year but we decided to buy our own to speed up sign ups and have total control over the results (not loosing them..hehe).

Well... the track looks real nice. Naturally it is unfinished but you can get the idea of what Vince is trying to do. He added a lot of dirt and used it in the top right hand side to make a slight elevated corner that has a step up feature. Looks like the track is going to have some larger jumps than last years track. Also has a starting gate which will add some really excitement to the starts. IMO the track looks like its going to be a lot better than last years. NOt that last years was bad..;-)

Except now it is getting a lot of water again. Next week's forecast is looking bleak with 4 straight days. Man oh man. This is just out of control. If it rains out, I am heading to that indoor track in Kentucky. Anyone want to go?

that is if they are racing. Nitro indoors btw.

'STARTING GATE" there is a lot of good reasons why you don't see those around anymore!! Lots of tracks had them when I first started racing and now none of the tracks have them anymore.

What reasons? Only time I have used one in a race was Rodslingers in 2008 and I thought it was clever and a blast to try to get to the holeshot like in motocross.

Well for starters the only thing that will come out of qualifying will be the TQ position, which is usually allowed to start several feet in front of the cluster that WILL happen behind! Like a wise man once said "you can not win the race on the first lap, but you sure can lose it!"

Agreed...wasn't thinking about that. What if the system was set to drop like this: TQ, 2, 3, 4....etc in sequence? Would that solve the issue?

This does bring up some issues that should be talked about.

I have to agree with Randy! I have raced using a starting gate and it is a really good way to have a pile up on the start and breaking you car or truck. In a way to me if defeats the purpose of qualifying because when it is all said and done you line up next to the person you out qualified or qualified behind.

I know VRP is hosting a RC Pro Series race and they will not be able to use the gate start for that race. I think that gate would be fine for club racing and other races they have but for the GCS and other big races I think IFMAR starts are the way to go.

Great job JP and Travis, like the super user friendly format of the results page.

I'm also going to agree with Randy and JP for the NO gate start in the mains, it most always make for a huge pile up at the first turn.
