I got my new Serpent about a week ago, I was able to start building it sunday may 30th in preperation for the 2010 AMS race the following weekend. Build went together smooth, fit and finish is top notch as expected from a top 1/8 onroad manufacturer. Couple of small hitches related to the fact that this was the first run of kits, but nothing serious or major.
The quality of the plastics is great, very durable. The screw holes are made a bit small, so it makes threading them the first time a bit of a workout, but pays off with good strong threads. The aluminum is nice, all 7075 i believe with most having a bright liquid silver type anodizing finish, and others being hard anodized. Turnbuckles and driveline is all Hudy spring steel and is top notch.
The shock are nice and smooth. The brakes work very well, notice no fade, and are easier to adjust bias and setup for the first time. Body fits snug to keep dirt out very well, and it is low profile with a sleek look. Ball bearing supported sway bars are trick and smooth, with pivot ball end link mounting that is trick as well. Radio tray is a bit of a tight fit, but once you figure it out, all is good. It is also easy to remove, only 4 4mm screws holding it to chassis. Center diff is out in about 30 seconds, literally. Rear diff quick to remove, front diff is a little tougher but not too bad.
I didnt get much practice time with it at AMS. Only a few runs on it. I did get bumped coming down a fast downhill section of the track and caught a lone pipe post that was exposed. I was near top speed and hit it with a front arm. The point of impact clearly seen on the arm, but arm not broken. It did bend the inner hinge pin, and opened the pin hole in the arm a bit, but could be used still. Slightly cracked the front carbon tower, but I didnt even notice this till after a couple more runs, was still holding up. Buggy is very strong and can take big impacts, there were 2 other broken parts out of the 5 of us running the buggy at AMS. Support from Serpent America was great also. Also, m2c racing part no. 3555 tapered hinge pins fit the front inner. They fit a little tight in the inserts, but after one run, they wear in and are perfect.
I was playing with the setup in practice and qualifying looking for the perfect setup. The final round of qualifying I finally got it and the buggy was wonderfull to drive at that point, responded quickly to inputs and jumped and cornered very well, and the brakes worked great with no issues other than sometimes giving them a bit too much and the back end popping up a bit. I didnt qualify well after having only 1 decent round, then was moving through the field in the main after a great start and then being freight trained by some others. I worked my way up to 3rd, was not far behind 2nd for the bump up spot and flamed out, first flame out all weekend, managed to finish 5th I believe. all in all very pleased with the buggies performance, and happy with my purchase.

Guys, I just wanted to stop in and let you know that I will now be with Serpent from now through the 2011 season! This move is something I look forward to and it has got me very motivated for the upcoming season.
My cars/parts will be here this week and I will quickly get up to speed and be able to provide set up help and support for Serpent. I will be at many of the regional events for Serpent and I will also be traveling to events with Billy Easton to help create the "TEAM" atmosphere and of course get some results!
Talk to everyone soon!

Sweet man. If you need any help with the build let me know. The instructions are wrong on a few steps...I'm sure Billy will let you know. If not let me know as I circled the steps.

Great Job by Billy to put the Serpent at the very top of the competition. After knowing Billy for a while and working with him on a previous venture in 2006-2007 it is my opinion that a lot of his peers and general public counted him out after his lay off from racing after his world title in the electric scene.
I think this is a great story to prove that hard work and dedication has put Billy at the top level of competition once again, him finishing just 8 seconds out of the third spot!
I am proud to be able to work with Billy and Serpent for the 2011 season! He worked hard on the serpent project and he deserves reward for it!

He drove an amazing race. I watched the whole thing. Definitely world class, both the buggy and driver.
You'd still have to pry my Hot Bodies from my cold dead hands, but Serpent looks like a winner too.
'njoy,
awk
