View Full Version : Calendar Question

I am looking at developing a solution that would allow us to have a Master calendar (not in this forum, but a new component) that would allow someone to add race events, kind of like rcsignup but only have the date, track, website, location, and map line (if known) listed. And in turn, each user can have the ability to create their own event calendar which is composed of dates they chose from the calendar. Additional features could be: sending your calendar list to someone, comparing your calendar to another user and viewing dates as a list or calendar. Of course some out of region tracks will have to be listed since, for instance I will be going to Colorado for the Nats.
Does this sound like a good calendar solution?
I am not promising anything, but I have a calendar system from another project that has been developed that could be altered for this and pretty damn cool. I just wanted to see if this would be a good idea.
Secondly, why aren't all or most tracks using rcsignup for their events? I seem to always have to look for the events on other forums for most NC and SC races. Curious.
Ideally, I would like to build my race calendar for me and share it with my other race buddies.
Comments welcome.

This sounds like a great idea but the problem I've seen is getting solid schedules from some tracks. I would like to run every track in the state at least once a year but it's hard to plan your season when some tracks wait so long to put out a schedule. If this system could get tracks to plan dates further out as best they can, it would be great!

getting schedules to mesh never works ..not being doom and gloom just being real ...there are very few tracks in alabama that could run all year without stepping on anothers toes ..from what ive seen ..people try the best they can mostly ..and some just dont care:)

That's kind of what I am saying. Too many tracks wait to see what everyone else is doing before they post and they all tend to end up waiting. I know they want to avoid the big races, but a race in two or three places of the state isn't the end of the world. I know that Alan has said (and I agree) that the racer base isn't large enough to support a lot of tracks, but there's got to be a better "system" to help them plan their events.
I'd say post when you want to have a race and let be what happens, but that's from someone who doesn't have to put these things on so the grain of salt applies.

Actually, I was wanting a tool more for the racer. Mainly to plan out what races to attend, so for instance I plan on 8 races between now and June, I could send that list via this system to you, so you can see what races I would like to attend and maybe we could pit together, etc...or have it where I could view your races, etc...there are many options.

I think it's a good idea since not all tracks are using RCSign Up. This would give racers another way to plan what races to go to and share with other racers. I do the samething on my own with either a visio calendar or outlook. Just for planning purposes and to make sure the ole' lady knows when not to plan anything crazy....

You know what I think Alex! Thank you for putting this together, makes scheduling and planning so much easier when you have a system in place.
If you need me to help in anyway please let us know.
