I'm talking to the city officals in Linconville about a tour track , there is a old tennis court sitting there doing nothing, it's fenced in the surface is still good, would there be a interest in something like this ?:checkered:

You might want to post that on the Georgia RC Tech thread. There is a bunch of on-road people there. I bet there will be interest. I actually have a DM-1 1/8 GT2 car that can't run due to only one crappy track here and it is not even operational as a normal track.

I would definately be interested in an on road track. Me and a handfull of friends are all getting touring cars. Jason and Colin from showzone are looking at places as well. They are checking with the ice palace to see if we can use the old skate park they have outside of the building. looks like it would be a great place for an onroad track. We also have a good size parking lot next to a storage building we rent in west ashley we cold use. Colin and Jason came and looked at it this week. Woudlnt be perfect but def useable. Let get onroad going in the charleston area. Would be a great addition to monks corner raceway.
Speaking of monks corner, maybe some onroad there this sunday since the track is too wet to run on?

Cory and I were talking the other day about a spec class for onroad. We could run RCGT, it is getting pretty big on the west coast. Specs are:
- Any 1/10 AWD TC chassis
- Any realistic sports/GT body (no race-bred TC bodies such as the Mazda 6 and others)
- HPI X-Pattern tires
- realistic wheels (no dish rims)
- 17.5 brushless / 27T brushed motors
i think it would be a great class here, keep racing close, no big spending needed, thinking of doing my HPI RS4 Pro up for this

That sounds cool . Would my 350 Z and Nissan Skyline bodies be legal with those specs ?
shinta
02-07-2010, 12:16 PM
there both spots car so i dont see why not. and if the skyline body is good. then i dont haft to do a thing but change over tires and motor on the car that is set up to drift.

dont know where you at but im shear any hobby shop can get them, i get most of my stuff throw hobby town and tower hobby. i got rums i just need tires now

I'm in Summerville , and have dealt with Hobby town in N.Charleston a enough to tell they don't really support the racers much , and Tower is great , but sometimes the wait is so long . lol .
ShagNasty
02-07-2010, 01:43 PM
yea, basically you can use any sports car style body, 190mm or 200mm, that isnt a touring car race specific body like most of the Protoform bodies, mazda 6, mazdaspeed 6, stratus, LTC, R9, etc are not allowed.
Most tracks are doing a minimum weight of 1400grams to keep cars more equal as well.
Some of the coolest body styles are 200mm, if you have a 190mm touring car and want to run a 200mm body, HPI makes 3mm and 6mm offset wheels. You can use these when using 200mm body on 190mm chassis. Best way is to get the body, mount it properly, then mount standard 0mm offset wheels and measure what offset you need, some bodies may require 3mm front, 6mm rear as some of the 200mm are a bit wider in rear or narrower in front.
the HPI X-pattern tires are available just about anywhere, most all places sell HPI products, I have seen the tires at hobby town before. Also must use a non dish wheel, like from HPI or someone else, must be a realistic style wheel.
I have read where some tracks will run a series, and racers get bonus point for added realism like working lights, exhaust, mirrors, realistic wings, etc.
I can get the rims and tires, bodies, etc if anyone is interested, PM me

Ricky, what's going on with Sumter? I heard that the track was getting an overhaul to be a big oval with the offroad in the middle. Do that many people run oval?
Karl, that came as a shock to me,didn't know nothing about it till it was already a done deal.yes i understand lance and don will be putting in good size oval for quarter scale racing, with plans of a small offroad in center. As of now i don't know of many oval drivers in sumter, guess they know alot of out of town drivers,i hope it works out well for them.

What do you guys think about starting a VTA class for the on road? here's the "official" rules for them
I had mentioned before that we could run RCGT, it is getting pretty big on the west coast. Specs are:
- Any 1/10 AWD TC chassis
- Any realistic sports/GT body (no race-bred TC bodies such as the Mazda 6 and others)
- HPI X-Pattern tires
- realistic wheels (no dish rims)
- 17.5 brushless / 27T brushed motors
i think it would be a great class here, keep racing close, no big spending needed
We can run vintage or current style real car bodies. I would rather have more current body than some old camaro body on my car. Plus the x-patterns will work better on an untreated concrete surface than the VTA spec tires would. If you wanna run VTA in rockhill all you need is old school body and some of those tires/wheels.

yea, hpi and others have alot of modern american cars. But my thing was running a modified version of RC GT, allowing both modern and vintage bodies, but using the HPI X-Pattern tires rather than the vintage tires due to the unprepped surface we run on.

It really doesn't matter to me if we run VTA or the modified RC GT. Just as long as all the cars are on a level playing field. The reason I suggested VTA is that the final drive ratio of all the cars are supposed to be within a very close range giving noone a speed advantage and that all of the different motor/battery combos have specs that need to be followed. This way the car is taken out of the equation and it's all driving skill (of which I have very little). If the speeds are too slow I believe that the VTA has something for that as well.

Hey, Biggun
Please dont hi-jack another thread to make constructive critisisms on Sumter's track. Goto their thread. They want to hear from you and want opinions of the track but wait till its finished. So dont spread discontent around on other threads until you run on it. Try it....you might just like it.
If you would ask the right people, say on the Sumter thread, you would know that the 350' centerline oval, 75% of it will be used for the offroad track....to my calculations that's a 262' flat out run to open those .21's up and a technical section in the center for jumps and other obstacles.
I dont know what you saw out there but its not at all like you say. Yes you are not going to have 850' of jumps, bumps, and turns, but what I've seen is very impressive and will be very fun and thats what they are trying to do....make it fun and add some new classes to the mix.
If anyone has any questions about the track, ask Don and Lance on the Sumter threads.
They will be posting pictures shortly....when the track is complete.
Thanks

Right now I'm using a pair of Onyx 230 chargers. Would it be worth it to upgrade to a Duratrax Ice or a TC 1030? Looking on rctech now for a good used one.
Thanks.
VENOM pro charger works very nice..

Yeah the 1030 is nice, if a bit pricey. Other than 10 amps charging what does it do better than the ICE?

Where do you guys meet up and race at? Is it 326 Race Car Lane Moncks Corner , S.C. 29461, or is that just the off road track?

Well , that is where the off road track is , but that is also where we have been running on road also on a concrete surface next to the off road track .

Had a great time as always . Just wish people would start in the right spot for where they qualified . O well , maybe next time i'll be better if i can get some time away from work to come out n run . Too bad there is not a track to practice on til race day . Maybe sometime in the future . lol . I just need to relearn throttle control and get rid of my off road trigger finger . lol .

I just got a pair of TC1030 chargers off ebay. One of them works fine, the other one powers up correctly and everything but when I try to charge a battery it gives me “Short-circuit - Output short-circuited. Pls check the output.” It does this during the battery test before it starts charging.
I've tried several different batteries with 2 different charge leads and it does it everytime. The settings are the same on both chargers. I can take the charge lead and battery off the one that's giving me the error and plug it into the other one and it works fine.
Any suggestions?

Well I got both chargers for $120. Contacted seller, if he won't refund the one guess I'll have to go through paypal. Sounds like that one is shot huh?

Send the seller a message that you are going to post a negative feedback. Then go through Ebay to try get them to mediate. Post a negative feedback if the seller doesn't respond to that. A negative feedback goes a long way. Ebay should also help you recover your money.

Yeah I've allready filed a claim with Ebay about it. Contacted seller 2 days ago and nothing yet.
Starting to think maybe I should stay away from used stuff, just nice to get stuff for 1/2 price.
